Instruct-ERIC has an open position for a Communication and Outreach Project Associate role.
We are looking for a science graduate with a passion for communicating world-class science to broad communities including both scientific and general audiences.
The appointee will be a motivated and organised individual with strong interpersonal skills to help us implement our communication plan and outreach to local, national and international groups.
The role is based at the Instruct-ERIC Offices in Oxford, UK. However, flexible working is available and in the case that COVID-19 guidelines require it, you will be asked to work from home.
Salary will be in the range £35-40K
Key Relationships
You will work with a diverse group of people and you will have regular personal contact with the:
- Instruct Director
- Instruct Hub Coordinator
- Senior Programme and Project Managers
- Technical and financial staff
- Scientists at all levels, policy makers, users of Instruct services and general audiences
You will also have broad contact with third parties across Europe and internationally through email, telephone and tele/videoconference.
Responsibilities/duties
You will;
- Write scientific news items, for websites and e-newsletters
- Have creativity and an eye for detail and design
- Create surveys, analyse data and produce reports
- Produce professional dissemination resources (brochures, posters)
- Social Media campaigns for various communities
- Web design, including creating new webpages
- Assist in creating video resources for promotion of Instruct and training
- Manage an image bank, ensuring that it is refreshed, and that all imagery has been appropriately licensed
- Represent Instruct-ERIC at networking meetings, scientific conferences and exhibitions
- Develop an updated public engagement campaign to showcase structural biology in preventative and therapeutic solutions
- Maintain the CRM system and ensure that data protection procedures are adhered to
- Set up and host online meetings
- Plan events and meetings in Oxford and remote locations, and for sessions at European conferences
- Work with international partners
Selection Criteria
Essential
- Educational background degree in biological sciences, chemistry or physics
- Excellent communication: writing, editing, presenting and proof-reading skills; the ability to write content for websites including summarising scientific articles for scientific and lay audiences.
- Strong inter-personal skills and experience of dealing with a wide range of people including academics, business clients, external partners and general public, including young people.
- Strong organisational skills with experience of prioritising a varied workload and meeting deadlines using own initiative and with minimal supervision
- Strong technical skills including fluency in Microsoft Office and a familiarity with databases, design tools (e.g.Illustrator, Powerpoint, Photoshop)
- Creative vision to help develop appealing content that all can understand
- Ability to undertake occasional travel within Europe
Desirable
- Practical experience in web design and functionality
- Graphic design skills
- Experience in filming interviews, editing, or creating podcasts
- Previous experience in a communications role or project management skills
- A second major European language
