The Department of Biological Sciences are seeking a motivated and creative Postdoctoral Research Assistant to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of action of the doublecortin family of microtubule associated proteins in neuronal development. This work is funded by the MRC and will be performed as part of the research team led by Dr Carolyn Moores. This post involves both molecular and cellular structure determination of microtubule-based machinery using cryo-electron microscopy and cryo-electron tomography. This work presents unique opportunities to gain insight into mechanisms of regulation of the microtubule cytoskeleton and to dissect the molecular basis of human diseases. The appointee will be a member of a team working on regulatory mechanisms of cytoskeleton dynamics (http://people.cryst.bbk.ac.uk/~ubcg62d/) and will interact with members of the Birkbeck Electron Microscopy group. The programme of research also involves collaboration with several international groups.
