Instruct-ERIC has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Latin America. From Memoranda of Understanding with institutions across the region, to co-organised workshops and conferences in structural biology and the wider research infrastructure community, Instruct helps to drive connection between Latin America and Europe in structural biology research.
Throughout 2024, Instruct had the opportunity to invite structural biology researchers in Latin America for study visits to facilities in Europe, as part of Instruct’s training programme. This opportunity was provided by the EU-CELAC Working Group on Research Infrastructures (WGRI) – established in 2017, highlighting the importance of Research Infrastructures (RI) as one of three strategic pillars of the EU-CELAC Common Research Area (CRA).
The researchers were invited to Instruct training courses, allowing them to connect and exchange best practices with new contacts in Europe, forging long-term partnerships that can be explored in future collaborations.

Instruct has had long term collaborations with the EU-CELAC WGRI, but also with several other projects and initiatives between Europe and Latin America: namely, EU-LAC ResInfra Plus, and the RI-Hubs project, both aiming to advance research connection between both regions.
This collaboration with ResInfra Plus, as well as Instruct’s MOU with many institutions in Latin America, allowed Instruct to launch its latest international call, providing funded access to structural biology services for researchers in Latin America. Find out more about the 4th call here.
In addition to Latin America, Instruct collaborates with researchers worldwide. See all of Instruct’s international partnerships here.
