Grade 6: £26,264- £31,331 with a discretionary range to £34,223 p.a.
Applications are invited for an Electron Microscopy Technician for the Division of Structural Biology based at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics.
You will be working jointly with Professor E. Yvonne Jones and Professor Kay Gruenwald’s groups. The facilities include a Tecnai T12 and two 300kV field emission gun (FEG) electron microscopes: FEI Tecnai F30 and a FEI Tecnai Polara. Your primary role will be to support the scientific projects of OPIC users by assisting in the day-to-day running of the division’s cryo Electron Microscopes and ancillary equipment in co-ordination with the senior EM staff scientist. You will assist in training new users and also contribute scientifically to the research and development of projects in particular in the area of cell surface receptors and assemblies.
You will have a Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering, and a demonstrable interest in electron microscopic techniques and their applications to structural biology. You will have technical expertise with scientific precision instrumentation and good dexterity and ability to use fine, delicate instruments. You will also be able to work as part of a team and independently and deliver results to required standard and schedule, be able to organize and prioritize own work with minimal supervision and have good communication skills both written and oral.
The position is fixed-term for 18 months in the first instance and funded by the Cancer Research UK and Medical Research Council.
