Postdoc Position at the Mchaourab Lab

Vanderbilt University, Nashville, United States
Application deadline: 29 Nov 2024

An NIH-supported postdoctoral fellowship is currently available in the Mchaourab laboratory at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. We are a highly interdisciplinary group with interest ranging from proteostasis in zebrafish to the conformational dynamics of active transporters. While historically we were an experimental lab, we have embraced the recent revolution in protein structure prediction and our research platform integrates deep learning methods, such as AlphaFold2, with experimental biophysical approaches to investigate structure/dynamics/function in multiple classes of transporters including ABC transporters and neurotransmitter transporters. Current experiential focus in the lab is on the application of cryo-EM, Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR), transport assays in the context of computational modeling. The laboratory is located in the department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics at Vanderbilt school of medicine with access to state-of-the-art cores in high performance computing, cryo-EM, EPR, mass spectrometry and various biophysical instrumentation. We are members of the newly inaugurated Center of Applied AI in Protein Dynamics (https://www.vanderbilt.edu/ai-proteindynamics/)

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in biochemistry, biophysics or related fields. We strongly welcome candidates with background in computational biology. The training plan will reflect the emerging paradigm of mechanistic structural biology at the interface of computation and experimental sciences. Relevant experimental skills include protein expression and purification, membrane reconstitution, biochemical analyses of function, and structure determination by x-ray crystallography or cryo-EM. Salary will be commensurate with experience and the starting date is negotiable.
