Senior scientist opening at Stanford — membrane protein biochemistry & structural biology

Stanford University, United States
Application deadline: 01 Jun 2026

We are excited to share an opening for a Senior Staff Scientist in the Rogala lab at Stanford University. We are seeking an experienced protein biochemist or structural biologist with strong, hands-on expertise in integral membrane proteins and enthusiasm for tackling difficult targets.

This position centers on SLC transporters implicated in cancer and rare metabolic disorders. The successful candidate will serve as a scientific anchor of this research program — working on experimental planning and strategy, driving bench work on difficult targets, and acting as a trusted mentor and technical resource for junior lab members. The role spans biochemistry, cryo-electron microscopy, and chemical biology, from experimental design through publication. Candidates with experience purifying and reconstituting membrane proteins into liposomes/nanodiscs, developing nanobody binders, establishing biochemical assays, and determining structures by single-particle cryo-EM are particularly encouraged to apply. We also welcome applicants with strong single-particle cryo-EM backgrounds who have worked on challenging soluble or multi-subunit complexes and wish to expand into the membrane protein space.

Key Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of protein structure–function relationships and a strong background in membrane protein biochemistry and/or structural biology.
  • Extensive chromatography experience (ÄKTA systems required; UHPLC familiarity is a plus).
  • Collaborative, creative experimentalist with curiosity, persistence, and a get-things-done mentality.
  • Strong commitment to scientific rigor, reproducibility, and mentoring junior researchers.

To apply, please follow the link on the Stanford Careers website. Informal inquiries are very welcome.
